'Yoga does not change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees'. BKS Iyengar

The benefits of Yoga on the body and mind have been recognised for thousands of years. Yoga works every part of the body, stimulating the whole system inside and out. Yoga is for everyone, no one is too old, too stiff, too fat, too thin to benefit from Yoga.

Yoga became popular in the west due to the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar. His method of Yoga is known as  Iyengar Yoga.

Regular practice of Yoga will increase suppleness, strength, stamina, improves posture and concentration and quietens the mind to promote good mental health and wellbeing.

Learning Yoga is progressive, building a stable foundation before attempting more challenging postures. Beginners start with standing poses and are gradually introduced to seated and reclining postures, forward extensions, inversions, twists and backbends.

Different Yoga posture develop the body in different ways and have specific effects on the body: grounding, energising, strengthening and calming.

Some time is devoted to relaxation at the end of each class and once the body can lie or sit for an extended period of time without distraction, students learn Pranayama (yogic breathing).

Classes are different each time, different poses are selected to emphasise various aspects of practice.

Classes can be joined at any time and can accommodate new people and more experienced practicioners in the same class.

BKS Iyengar studied and practiced yoga for over 70 years. He devoted a lifetime to systemizing the many ancient yoga poses, devising a unique method relevant and accessible to all. Today Iyengar Yoga, a name given to this system by Iyengar’s senior teachers, not by himself, has become one of the most practiced and respected yoga methods worldwide.

Sadly Guruji died August 2014, but his yoga lives on through the many teachers who teach and practise his methods worldwide.
